Menu builder — arrange the menu by drag and drop

Add categories and dishes, quick-add by name and price, drag the menu into the order cashiers see, photos, on and off POS, menu health, the online menu for QR and kiosk, and Excel.

The menu builder is where a manager sets up the menu and puts it in the order cashiers see. Open Menu. A manager, or the manager of a Multi-Outlet outlet, sees the builder. Cashiers and kitchen station logins do not.

The screen has two sides. On the left are the categories, grouped under each kitchen, with a kitchen switcher above them when the house has more than one. On the right are the dishes of the category you picked, as a Grid of tiles or a List. The search box looks across every dish.

1. Add a category

Press + Category, type the name, and pick the kitchen it belongs to. A category sits in one kitchen, and names do not repeat.

The header above the dishes is the category's own card:

  • Add photo or Change photo sets the category picture.
  • Rename asks you to confirm, and shows the new name before it saves.
  • The Category on POS switch hides or shows the whole category for cashiers.

2. Add dishes

The fastest way is Quick add at the foot of the dishes. Type Paneer Tikka 260 and press Enter. The dish is added to this category at ₹260, and the box stays ready for the next one.

For a full dish, press + Item. One window holds everything, with a single save at the bottom:

  • Name, price, unit, HSN, and type: the veg or non-veg mark, and whether it is sold by plate, by weight (price per kg) or by volume (price per L).
  • Tax, POS, stock, and photo: the tax slab, whether it is on POS, stock tracking with the quantity on hand and the restock level, and the dish photo.
  • Variants and add-ons: sizes or crusts, choices under a size, and extras.

To change a dish later, press Edit on its tile.

3. Put the menu in order

The order here is the order cashiers see on the POS and the kitchens see on their screens.

  • Hold the dotted grip on a category or a dish and drag it to its place. A finger works on a touch screen, and so does a mouse.
  • Drop a dish on a category in the left list to move it there.
  • Drop a dish on + Add dish at the end to place it last.
  • No dragging? Each card has a ⋯ menu with Move up, Move down and Move to.

A category stays in its own kitchen. Clear the search before dragging, because a searched list is not the real order. Every move saves at once, and Undo takes back the last move or on/off change.

4. Take a dish off the POS for the day

The switch on each tile reads On POS or Off POS. Turn a dish off when the kitchen runs out. It stays in the builder, greyed, ready to turn back on.

5. Photos

A tile without a photo shows + Add photo. Pick a JPG or PNG and it is saved with the dish. With dish photos on, the POS shows each dish as the same tile you see in the builder. Dishes with no photo keep an empty frame, so the rows line up.

6. Check the menu

Menu health counts what needs attention: dishes with a photo, dishes with no price (shown in red on the tile as Set a price), and dishes off POS. POS preview shows the category the way a cashier will see it.

7. The online menu, for the QR menu and the kiosk

Guests on the QR menu and the self ordering kiosk do not see kitchen categories. They see online categories, such as Breakfast or Combos, and each one gathers the dishes of the kitchen categories linked to it. One kitchen category can sit in several online categories. So for guests, the placement of the online categories is what matters.

The switch at the top of the builder, Kitchen menu (POS) / Online menu (QR & kiosk), opens that second arrangement:

  • Drag the online categories into the order guests should see them. Each has a photo and an on/off switch.
  • Pick an online category to see the kitchen categories linked to it. + Add kitchen category links one; × removes it.
  • Choose how its dishes are ordered: by price, lowest first, or as in the kitchen menu.
  • Guest preview shows it the way the QR menu and the kiosk will.

Menu health on this side warns about a kitchen category that is on no online category, because its dishes are hidden from guests. The full lesson on tiles is online categories.

8. Delete

  • A dish can be deleted at any time. Past bills keep its name and price, so sales reports do not change.
  • A category can be deleted once it has no dishes, including dishes that are off POS. Move or delete them first.

9. A whole menu from Excel

Download the template, fill it, and upload it. The upload shows the new items, the changes to existing items, and the rows with errors before anything is saved; rows with errors are skipped. What each column means is in menu Excel upload.
