Show breakfast at breakfast: menu hours for restaurants and hotels

← All notes

A guest with a phone does not know that idli stopped at 11:00. They scan the table QR, or they tap the kiosk, and they order what is still printed on the tile. If Breakfast is still there at 16:00, the kitchen gets a ticket it did not plan to cook.

That is what menu schedule is for. Each online category — Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, Dinner, the bar — has its own Monday–Sunday week. On the QR menu, every enabled tile is listed: tiles that are on now sit on top; closed tiles stay below, not tappable, with the next open time (and the weekday and date when that is not today, for example Opens Thu 7:00 AM, 5 Nov). On the kiosk they stay off the rail. Direct Orders is delivery on that same QR menu, so the customer only orders what is on now — breakfast comes off at 11:00 without anyone tapping Off. The cashier’s till does not change.

In a restaurant

Most dining rooms already think in services, not in one endless list. Set Breakfast from 07:00 to 11:00. Lunch from 12:00 to 16:00. Snacks from 16:00 to 19:00. Dinner from 19:00 to 23:00. A happy-hour drinks tile can run 17:00–19:00 on weekdays and stay Off on Sunday. Two slots on one day are fine — lunch and dinner with the afternoon closed — as long as they do not overlap.

A starter that belongs on Snacks and Dinner still sells on whichever tile is showing. Staff can still ring a dinner thali at 15:00 for a regular who asked. Schedule is for guests who order without asking the house.

In a hotel

Breakfast, the all-day diner, and the bar share a stay, not a menu. A room QR at 15:00 should not offer the buffet. Put buffet hours on the Breakfast tile, keep the coffee shop open later, and put the bar on an evening window that can run past midnight. Overnight (22:00–02:00) belongs to the start day. On Sunday, add a brunch slot without rewriting Monday–Saturday.

On centralised billing, kitchens still only cook their own lines. Schedule only decides which guest tiles appear. The F&B manager is not turning categories off by hand at 11:00 every day.

How you set it

Open Online menu (QR & kiosk), pick the tile, press Schedule. Each weekday is All day, Off, or Hours. Copy Monday onto the rest of the week when they match. Empty hours, or all day every day, means the tile shows whenever it is switched on. The clock is the restaurant timezone.

If every tile is closed, or a tile has nothing to sell, the guest sees: no items are available on the menu right now. Please try again in a little while.

Questions

Does the schedule apply on the cashier till?

No. Hours decide which QR tiles can be opened, and which kiosk tiles appear. Staff still sell any dish that is on Menu.

Can one dish sit on two tiles with different hours?

Yes. A dish is orderable for the guest if any of its online categories is showing now. Put the same starters on Snacks and Dinner if both services should sell them.

Can a hotel bar stay open past midnight?

Yes. An overnight window such as 22:00–02:00 belongs to the start day. Set it on the Bar tile; Breakfast can stay closed until morning.
